Home Is Where My Story Begins

A Berry Big Problem and Biringer Jam Tasting

Usually, by this time of the year, I’ve made 2 or 3 trips up to Biringer Farm to get my berries.  The kids still enjoy riding the tractor out to pick the berries, and we come home with enough for jam, shortcakes, and put several bags in the freezer for smoothies later in the year.

Well, this year “Pneumonia Boy” threw a wrench into those plans. My son came down with pneumonia at the beginning of the summer and he’s had a pretty tough time kicking it.  Today I can finally say he’s on the mend and starting to seem like his old self again.  I knew he still wouldn’t be up for a day of berry picking, so I got online to see if there were still strawberries at my local Wight’s Nursery Berry Barn.  NO STRAWBERRIES LEFT!  Not only that, but today is the last day for strawberries up in Arlington.

I’ve stopped by the berry barn a couple of times and picked up a flat, but my kids eat them faster than I can get them in the freezer!

I think I’ve totally missed the boat this year.  Boy, are we going to be sad when we have no fresh berries in the freezer this winter.  I guess we’ll have to settle for raspberries this year.

Here’s hoping you were on the ball and have your berries picked, washed, frozen, or turned into jam!

By the way, if you’re a jam maker, mark your calendar for July 20th!  Biringer Farm is holding a jam tasting.  If you bring a jar of your homemade jam, you will receive a FREE flat of berries!  There are also fun activities for the kids!  We’ll be driving home from Lake Chelan on that day, so I’m sad to say I don’t think I’ll be back in time.  Once again, I’m missing out on all of the berry fun!

I hope you are able to go and have a BERRY good time!
