Home Is Where My Story Begins

Apothecary Jars

Sitting behind my sofa, on the console table, are jars just waiting to be filled with seasonal goodies. I knew I needed these fabulous jars after seeing Holly’s house. We take care of Holly’s very large, and not very friendly, kitty when she’s out of town. Holly has one of those homes that after you visit, you immediately head home to clean, declutter, and start making a wish list of things you want to buy for your own home. Well, Holly has apothecary jars, so I added those to the wish list.

I bought my jars about a year ago and had wonderful intentions of changing their contents seasonally. I started with Valentine candy and then couldn’t think of anything wintery to put in them. They sat empty. By summer I bought pretty rocks and never changed them again. I had every intention of changing them in the fall, but never got around to it. To top it off, the jars get very dusty and just plain dusting doesn’t cut it. They really need to be emptied and washed regularly.

Yesterday, I finally went through a few of my fall bins in the garage and found some vase fillers. Apples and nuts seemed like a good choice.

What do you fill your jars with? Do you change them out seasonally? What should I put in them in the winter?

Thanks for the inspiration, Holly!

I usually keep apples and some really pretty fake lemons in mine. Like you, I don't change them as I intended to. You've inspired me! Love the walnut idea.

I put small ornaments in for christmas. There are lots of options for winter; berries, pinecones with white glitter, candy canes or mints, decorated foam balls that look like snowballs. A small scarf and mittens. The possibilites are endless if you think about it and what you have at home.

Is it too late to suggest fillers for your apothecary jars? I think pinecones and berries would look nice and for fun what about "snowballs"? Foam balls with glitter.
I like the jars I'm gonna have to get me some. O and I haven't got to tell you yet how much I love the entryway. I love the red bench. I want one of those too.

All it takes is a piece of lunch meat and my unfriendly cat is your BFF! You have only seen my home when it is clean, don't drop by unexpectedly or you will see the real me..an untidy slob! I too am challenged with changing up my jars. Right now I have moss and wicker balls. Halloween I use candy corn because it is so inexpensive. christmas is fake snow and ornaments. Your house is gorgeous! Very warm and inviting. Chili will be seeing you soon 🙂

Winter….I use pinecones in one, cranberries in another and then greenery cuttings in my third (they dry out but you can't tell from the looks of it) Hope that helps and… – P.S. – Your home is beautiful!
