Great Gift or Totally Lame

January 3, 2011   By Becca 15 Comments

Ok, Friends.  I need your honest opinion.  This was a Christmas gift for my brother-in-law.  I think it’s a great idea for a hard-to-buy-for guy.  Let me explain.  This is a car care kit.  We are expected to have a colder than normal Winter in the Pacific Northwest. One bin holds all sorts of supplies; water, granola bars, umbrella, gloves, etc.  The other bin holds the softest blanket EVER.  It is from Eddie Bauer.  It is fleece on one side and waterproof on the other.  It is down filled and PERFECT for sitting outside watching soccer games. I even bought bins from the dollar store to hold the car care kit.  I think it’s a great idea.  My hubby thinks I need a little help in the gift giving department.

What do you think?  Great gift or totally lame?  Be honest.  I can take it.

Great gift! Next time I suggest letting your hubby buy for your BIL though and then you can critic his gift giving skills :-)

Great idea. I think Samantha has the right idea if he thinks it is lame you let him have a shot at the gift giving ideas. What would be his suggestion?

I think it's a great gift because 1) it's hard to buy for adults (I mean what do any of us really need???), 2) it's probably not something he would ever put together for himself but it's very handy to have in the car and 3) if he doesn't like it as a car kit, he can take everything apart and still has some nice snacks and an awesome blanket!

I think it's a very creative, thoughtful gift. It's obvious you put a lot of thought into it. To me that's what a good gift is all about. :)

Umm, duh-great gift! I can't believe you had to ask. That blanket is AMAZING! I saw it at EB and almost had to have it…

I think it's great and very useful too. Love the blanket. I bet your BIL gets some good use out of it. Oh, and Happy New Year.

I think it's a great gift, but I can see where the awesomeness of it would be lost on a dude ;(

It is not a womans gift!!!! That was a silly remark and shame on you if you are a woman that said that. It is a very nice gift that will come in handy and its probably not stuff that he would take the time to put together for himself. Good job.

I think this is genius! Seriously I can't tell you how many times I think having a survival kit would be so smart in Midwest winters. No offense but remember your husband is a guy, and thinks he is tough and can rough anything!

I think only women understand the need for an emergency kit in the car. I have to force my husband to take a coat for our son in the winter in case they were to break down somewhere.

I think it was very thoughtful, as the BIL on the receiving end of the gift. I have a roadside kit already but no blankie. Now the trick is to actually not raid it after I airline home at the end of the week.
