Home Is Where My Story Begins

Happy Birthday To Me!

Continuing on with blogging-catch-up, I have to share a few pictures of my big birthday celebration.  This year was one of those milestone birthdays for me.  My hubby wanted to do something special, like have a party, but I’m not much of a partier.  I told him that what I really wanted to do was go somewhere different for brunch or dinner.  I’ve lived near Seattle my whole life and I think I remember eating at the Space Needle when I was about 6 or 7, but it’s a very vague memory.  We made plans to have brunch at the Space Needle.  It’s $45 for adults and kids 12 and under were $15.  Although we were planning on having it be just the two of us, I thought $15 was a pretty good price for kids and knew they would really love going.

I’m not a huge fan of the big scary city, but lately it’s started growing on me. I still have a few special names for the type of growth, but it’s still growing.

To go up in the observation deck, it’s something like $17, or maybe it was $22, but either way I was glad we opted for the brunch instead.  I can’t imagine paying that much just to look out over the city.  At least this way we had a great meal out of the deal.

The view really was great, especially when you were inside, rather than outside in the wind.

The kids thought it was pretty cool that the restaurant spun around.  You could feel it moving and it took a bit of getting used to.  It kind of reminded me of being on a ferry boat.  The movement wasn’t horrible, but you could definitely feel it.

We spotted my hubby’s work building.

And a few more buildings.

And more.

It was a cloudy day, but as the sun started peeking though, the clouds lifted and we could see the water.

I’ve often heard that the food at the Space Needle isn’t anything too special.  This was part of the kids’ brunch.  The sausage was really good!  The adult brunch started with appetizers, which we shared with the kids.

My main course was TO DIE FOR!  I’m a huge fan of Eggs Benedict, but when you add crab to Eggs Benedict, it’s ALL OVER!  I texted a picture to my sister just because I know she loves it as much as I do.

The huckleberry pancakes weren’t anything special.  Actually, they had kind of a chemically flavor to them.  If I had been anywhere else, I probably would have sent them back, but I’ve never eaten at a restaurant where they serve your orange juice in a champagne glass and place your cloth napkin on your lap for you.

I really wish I brought my fancy camera because I can never tell what the picture quality is like on my phone.  Oh, my, how I love crab.

They brought dessert out with a candle in it.  They didn’t sing, like they do at Red Robin though. (That comment says a lot about our idea of a typical fancy dinner out on the town.)

Overall, it was really a great way to spend my birthday. (My actual birthday was on the first day of school, but that shouldn’t really count as a birthday since that day is just crazy.)  My kids were very impressed. I’ve already informed them that they will never be going there again, since the kids’ price is for 12 and under.  Since my son is turning 13 this year, I won’t be planning to pay $45 for him any time soon.  $15 I can afford, $45… not so much.

It wasn’t a big party, like my hubby would have preferred, but I spent my birthday exactly the way I wanted.  I spent the day with my three favorite people, having a once in a lifetime brunch.
