Home Is Where My Story Begins

Homemade Blueberry Zucchini Bread and I Didn’t Lift a Finger

Last week my kids decided they were in the mood to bake.

Problem? I think for the first time in my lifetime, I wasn’t in the mood to bake.

My sister-in-law had made blueberry zucchini bread the week before and the kids were raving about it. That’s what they wanted to make too. We had a zucchini on the counter and blueberries in the fridge, so I told them to just go for it.

Without even a blink of an eye, they went straight for the computer.

“Mom, what’s your favorite recipe website?” they called from the kitchen.

I suggested foodnetwork.com because I knew they’d have videos too.

In no time at all, they found a recipe, with video, for Paula Deen’s zucchini bread.  When it came to the part where she added nuts, my kids looked at each other and said, “We’ll just add blueberries instead.”

They started in.  I went upstairs to fold laundry.  It was about that time that my hubby came up to find me and said, “Do they know what they’re doing down there?”

Let me tell you, friends, my kids know their way around the kitchen.  They have been cooking and baking with me since before they could talk.  I was so impressed that they were able to find a recipe and bake delicious bread all on their own.  No help.  No mom, hovering.

Delicious blueberry zucchini bread and I didn’t even have to lift a finger.

Happy baking!  (Or happy laundry folding, in my case!)
