Home Is Where My Story Begins

How I Clean My House

When I’m cleaning for company, I have to focus…focus…focus.

I always thought my ability to multi-task was a good thing. Now, I’m beginning to think my multi-tasking is becoming more ADHDish. Like last week, when I was cleaning the craft room and got distracted by the pretty ribbon. Then it turned into present wrapping time. On the plus side, my craft room was clean at the end of the day AND I had several gifts wrapped.

When I want my house clean and organized, I start at the top. I gather all of my supplies before I start. I usually start in my bedroom and bathroom because the kid clutter in my daughter’s room just scares me. (I’m not really sure we’re related by blood… just kidding, Sweet Pea!)

Here’s my trick. I DON’T LEAVE THE ROOM until it is completely finished. If I leave the room to take the garbage from the bathroom downstairs, I will notice the dryer has finished the cycle. If I notice the dryer has finished the cycle, I will decide to fold the laundry. If I decide to fold the laundry, I will think that Nate Berkus really wants to spend some quality time with me and I’ll turn on the TV. You get the picture. So, back to my trick. DON’T LEAVE THE ROOM until it’s perfect and then move on to the next room.

Once the upstairs is done, I move on to the lower level of the house. Again, I stay in the room I’m cleaning until it’s done. Once every room is done, I hurry and grab my camera. Time to take pictures for the blog. It’s the only way I’ll be able to see my clean house again until the next time I’m in the mood to clean and organize.

Happy cleaning!

I wasn't sure if it was just me that was all over the place…..glad you shared your way of getting things done. I laughed how taking the trash downstairs turned into laundry and so on…this is so me.

Great idea. I usually do all the bathrooms first and then I also clean one room completely before moving on. Your home is lovely. Hugs, Marty

Very lovely and clean house Becca…. I usually start with an over all programme of cleaning the house and done itas per the changes I need… And the most hectic and tiring part is kitchen I feel… jars, bottles, shelves , cabinets, grocery item dha dha… And when I finished I looked it quite more time and buck up myself :P…

Oh… I'm so happy that I'm not the only one who gets off track so easily. That's great advice. I'm going to try it right now :)And yes, your home is beautiful.

I am trying to catch up on your blog. For some reason it wasn't pulling into my google reader and I missed a month!! Anyway, I had to comment because this is pretty close to the way I clean. Only difference is I start with the kitchen and bathrooms because they are always my worst!! Before I start I do the "put away run marathon"!! I start in one room and start picking up and putting things where they belong! If it is in another room I grab something there and put it away where ever it may lead me! Good exercise! Have a great weekend!

Oh, that's maybe the reason why I don't get to finish my chores in a room whenever I do my cleaning! Thanks, Becca! *hugs*

Okay, so I'll keep this DON'T LEAVE THE ROOM trick this weekend. How I wish building maintenance in our house here in NYC can be one of my specialty aside from crafting (means creating mess). LOL.

I definitely can relate to that ‘taking-trash-downstairs-turns-doing-the-laundry-turns-folding-clothes and-watching-the-TV’ thing. I tend to get distracted by everything that needed to be done, to the point that I want to start the next chore and neglect the ones I’m currently doing. You’re right about not leaving a particular area without having it totally cleaned. One place at a time is one good and organized way of cleaning method.
