Home Is Where My Story Begins

Little Round Sprocket Pillows

A few weeks ago, I spotted an adorable pillow on the Cluck, Cluck, Sew blog.  She called them Sprocket pillows and I thought they were about the cutest things I’d ever seen.  There are templates and instruction on Cluck, Cluck, Sew.  The fabric, that I wanted to use to make my pillows, wouldn’t work with the template that I had downloaded.  I got to work making my own template and pattern.  I’m not a pattern maker, so this challenged me a bit.

I was so pleased at the way my first round pillows turned out.  I made three pillows out of my stash of “school” fabric.  These pillows are now part of the listening center in my kindergarten classroom.  Here’s a look at the fabric I picked and the cute fabric covered button.

Fast forward to my Home and Family Friday linky party, last week.

Nancy, from  Flatrock Cabin, added her Sprocket pillow to the linky party.

Nancy was making them for gifts, which gave me an idea! Great Grandma is always the hardest person to buy for.  A few years ago, I made a quilt for Great Grandma and still had a stash of fabric scraps.  After looking in my scrap bin, I found enough fabric to make at least one pillow.  Again, my scraps were too small to use the pattern on Cluck, Cluck, Sew.  I made my own pattern and got to work sewing.  I started on Saturday morning and was finished by lunch time.  Although, I did have to call my mom with a sewing 911.  I needed a fabric covered button.  My fabric store is about a half an hour away and her store is 3 minutes down the road.  She stopped and got me a button and dropped it off at my house, on her way through my area. (It’s so nice to have a mom who understands sewing emergencies.)

Here’s the pillow for Great Grandma.  I’m not a pink and purple girl, but I think I like this one better than my school pillows!  Hopefully Great Grandma will love it too.

Happy Sewing!

P.S.
My friend, Kerry, made one of these in a floor size!  How cool is that?  I think I need to make some over-sized floor pillows like this for my family room.  Sometimes it’s a good thing when your printer spits out an image that is double the size of the intended pattern…. happy accident!

Here are a few linky parties I like to participate in.
