Photoshop – Using an Artist’s Eye

Ok, friends. I have learned so much about my camera since last spring. Now I need to learn about Photoshop, but there is one part of photoshop that I’m not sure I can actually learn. Can you learn to see photos with an artist’s eye? I play around with my photos and I don’t know which actually looks better.

Take my apple pics, for example. The photo on the right was taken on a sunny day, with the flash turned off. I felt like the picture was a little yellow. So I played with coloring a little in Photoshop. I came up with the photo on the left, but then I didn’t know if it was better. It kind of looks washed out to me. What do you think? Do you use Photoshop? How do you tell if something actually looks better or worse? Sometimes I think I over-do things when I’m playing around with the tools in Photoshop.

I do think the apples are shown more to their advantage on the Photoshopped pic on the left. Either way, your blog is beautiful…the background is so fall-ish, and your pictures are all so pleasant to see! 🙂

I think your photos come from your heart so they all look good but the photo on the left looks better to me -The one on the right does look yellow -either way the apples look fine

I agree with the one on the right being too yellow. The one on the left is better but still missing something. I love photoshop but I am still learning too. I use http://www.photoshopessentials.com/
to teach myself to edit with photoshop. I hope its ok to post that link here… I think the photo is still wonderful and perfect for fall 🙂

I would have to pick the one on the left. Taking photos isn't easy….as it is I'm always messing with the modes on my camera let along attempt Photoshop. Good luck!

I love messing around with the color of my photos! You're right, the one on the right is too yellow, but the left one does look slightly washed out. I usually work with Gimp, so don't know anything about Photoshop, but you should be able to find a place to adjust the colors. In Gimp, I would decrease the yellow in the original image by increasing the blue value. You may try playing around with the colors and see if that helps! 🙂 Lovely shot by the way!
