My little fall down the stairs, a few weeks ago, has me riding a sweet “old lady” scooter with a wire basket. It’s actually been very helpful. I’ve been able to get around the school much easier and I can put all sorts of supplies in my little basket. My teacher friends would be the first to tell you that sometimes I go a little fast on the straight hallways.
On the way out of school today (I wasn’t even speeding this time) I hit a bump in the sidewalk. Ok, let me paint a better picture for you. Imagine the basket and handlebars fully loaded with my purse, lunch bag, school bag, laptop bag, and coat. Now, image all 115 pounds of me going over the handlebars head first. (Ok, those of you who are “real life friends” are thinking that I don’t actually weigh 115 pounds – it’s my story and I can tell it however I’d like!!!) Of course, I landed on my broken/sprained foot. It seems to be hurting a little more than it was at the beginning of the day. It’s my wrist that’s really killing me, though. Stupid sidewalk! The office manager at my school is going to read this and slap an L&I form in the basket of my scooter faster than I can roll by her desk.
I think I’d better prop my foot up, sit by the fire, and not move. It’s the safest place for me. I now know what it feels like to be old and broken.
