Many of you know I teach kindergarten. On Tuesday I will greet 23 new kindergarteners. Some will be nervous. Others will bounce in, ready for every adventure. Either way, as a parent, it’s so hard to let your child go. This is a poem I share with parents on the first day of school. I dare you to read it without crying. I know I cry EVERY time.
The First Day of Kindergarten
I gave you a little wink and smile as you
Entered my room today.
For I know how hard it is to leave and
Know your child must stay.
You’ve been with him for five years now
And have been a loving guide
But now, alas, the time has come to
Leave him at my side.
Just know that as you drive away and
Tears down your cheeks may flow,
I’ll love him as I would my own and help
Him learn and grow.
For as a parent, I too know how quickly
The years do pass,
And not long ago it was my turn to take
My child to class.
So please put your mind at ease
and cry those tears no more,
For I will love him and take him in
When you leave him at my door.
Happy First Day of School, Kindergarteners!!!

Awww… I don't think there's a Mommy out there who wouldn't cry at that. Have a wonderful year!

So true! Dropped mine off a week and a half ago. Still adjusting . . .

So sweet! I'm sure they will love you too! My daughter is in 4th grade now and some of our sweetest memories are of her precious kindergarten teacher.

I KNEW I shouldn't have read that today. After dropping off the little one for Kindergarten today, I was very surprised to feel a bit sad. I'm blaming it on the weather.
It's nice to know she'll be able to see her good friend Becca throughout the day.

Very sweet, you sound like a very dedicated teacher and any mom would be thrilled to drop her little one off to your loving hands !
Since mine were homeschooled, college was my first day saying " have a good day in school boys !" LOL !
thanks for sharing,
