Brace yourselves!  I’m about to tell you about an app that is absolutely life changing!  Oh, yes, you read that correctly.  It’s life changing.  As a teacher, the single question I hear most often is, “What can I do at home to support/help/teach my child?”  I heard this most often when I taught half day kindergarten.  Most of the moms in my class were stay at home moms.  They knew their kids were not getting the same number of hours in the classroom as the full day kids and they wanted to continue the learning with their children at home.  I would give ideas, suggest resources (Playful Learning blog, website, and book is among my favorites), and talk them through suggested activities.

This app from LeapFrog answers those questions parents and caregivers have, customized for their individual child and updated regularly!  You don’t need to wait until parent/teacher conferences to find out what you can do with your child to help them develop math skills (or reading and writing skills for that matter).  It’s all right here!

The app is available on the itunes app store TODAY!  It wasn’t supposed to be out until tomorrow, but it’s here! It’s here!!  I was given a sneak peak because I’m like this (imagine that I’m crossing my fingers to show you how tight we are) with LeapFrog. 

I have to tell you, friends, when I downloaded this and started playing around with it, I ran upstairs to tell my husband how amazingly brilliant I thought it was. (He didn’t seem to care as much as I do.) My first thought was all of those parents who have asked my advice on how to help their kids at home.  I suggest books, online classes, and give them a few ideas, but those things are stand-alone and this app isn’t just a one time deal!  It updates regularly (I think weekly) and you’ll be given tips, activities, and even printables for a variety of subjects.

I almost forgot to tell you the coolest part. You can customize it for your children.  I told the app the ages and genders of my kids (and even made up a few extra kids just because I wanted to play around with it).  Now, when I pull up the app, it shows something similar to the pictures above. It has ideas specific to my own kids. Zoey is just an example.  She’s not really mine. 

So, how much would you expect to pay for this app?  Considering that a LeapFrog cartridge for a LeapPad or Tablet is about $24, I expected to pay at least $20 for this app.  Before knowing the cost, I was thinking/hoping it would be $10 or less, because that would make it accessible to so many families.  Well, this app is actually FREE.  FREE. FREE.  I’m seriously amazed.
